Tap & Go Coming Soon!

Coming soon, our debit and credit cards will feature a contact less payment option for simple and secure transactions. Tapping to pay with your SeaComm Visa® Debit or SeaComm Visa® Platinum contact-less card is secure and convenient - perfect for places like fast-food restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops, vending machines, taxis and more! Just look for the Contact-less Symbol at checkout!

Tap & Go gives your card greater fraud protection because each transaction is accompanied by a one -time code. Meaning that unlike cash, tapping to pay provides an electronic record of your purchases. The one-time code generated every time a contact-less card or payment-enabled mobile/ wearable device is used at an in-store contact-less enabled terminal protects your payment information, making it extremely effective in reducing counterfeit fraud.

Once contact-less cards have been released, it will be issued to you at your next card renewal. Your new card will be updated with the Tap & Go feature while still providing you the opportunity to insert the chip or swipe at check-out.

Check our website and Facebook page for future updates and information on this exciting new feature!

SeaComm Café Coming Soon

We recently donated $20,000 to the St. Lawrence Health Foundation. This is the second installment of a five year, $100,000 pledge to the organization’s Great Care, Right Here Campaign. This multi-million dollar expansion will allow Canton-Potsdam Hospital to meet the challenges of an ever evolving healthcare field while continuing to provide services to the community. The funds will be used to continue the construction of the SeaComm Café in the Regional Care Pavilion.

Robert Santamoor, a member of our Board of Directors, along with President and CEO Scott A. Wilson attended the ribbon cutting for Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s new Regional Care Pavilion. This contribution demonstrates our commitment to health care in the North Country and has included naming rights for the new entry café, which will be known as the “SeaComm Federal Credit Union Café.”

Congratulations on Retirement Tammy Harrigan, Paula Brown & Neary McCarthy!

Tammy Harrigan – 35 Years of Service

How do you feel about leaving SeaComm and retirement? Making a life-altering decision, such as retiring from a company that has been a part of me for 35 years was a bit overwhelming. It was not a decision that I made on a whim or taken lightly. Any anxiety felt early in my decision was simply based on an unknown future, but in the end my mind and heart were in alignment. I leave SeaComm with an enormous sense of accomplishment and pride. This company has not only provided a comfortable living for me, but has allowed me to forge relationships that I will cherish forever.

What is your proudest moment or accomplishment from your career? My time with SeaComm cannot be measured by one single proud moment. I look on with pride each time I hear the accomplishments of our flourishing Malone Branch, knowing that I was leading it for the original 17 years of its existence, helping to solidify its purpose. When I was asked to oversee the marketing efforts, I was a one person department, aligned with business development. Today, we have a graphic designer, social media guru, communications person and financial literacy educator who are all led by a marketing manager. Through my years leading the marketing team, I have envisioned, created and/or successfully instituted the Spin-the-Wave program, Live Letter Check, Loan Engine, SeaComm’s Beyond the Branch Initiatives, Benefits Plus and more! I am proud of the countless awards the marketing team has won for the credit union based on our community presence and marketing prowess. It has been an honor to be tied to such a successful team and organization.

Looking back, what advice would you give your younger self starting out at SeaComm? Buckle-up and get ready for a fun ride! Your success will be SeaComm’s success and vice versa. Give all you have, remain confident and continue to look beyond your boundaries.

“As Tammy closes a final chapter on her 35-year career with SeaComm, she should be extremely proud of what she leaves behind. A first-in-class, solid brand, built up through a consistent, well planned out marketing strategy through print, digital and special events. The footprint she leaves behind is a legacy that she should be gratified to have been a part of for so long. As a member of my senior leadership team her voice at the table will be sadly missed.” President & CEO Scott A. Wilson

Paula Brown – 35 Years of Service

What is your definition of success, and how has it evolved over the last 35 years? When I first started at SeaComm, I felt like being successful was about meeting goals. Reaching Goals is important, however, as the years went by success became more being able to make a positive impact on those around me. I feel successful when I am able to help someone improve and build his or her own skills. I enjoy celebrating when a staff member accomplishes their own feats. It’s in those moments I feel most successful.

Looking back, what advice would you give to your younger self starting out at SeaComm? I would tell myself to be more confident in my skills and don’t be afraid to find my own voice. I was incredibly shy when I started working at SeaComm and afraid to speak out. Nevertheless, I have learned through the years that speaking up for what you believe in is ok; every opinion is needed to create solutions. I would tell my younger self to embrace those moments that push you out of your comfort zone.

What is your most memorable moment or accomplishment from your time with SeaComm? Throughout my 35 years, there have been many memorable moments with the great people I met along the way; during my first 20 years in the Malone Branch I built many lifelong friendships. When I relocated to the Main Office it came with opportunities to grow. Lending was always my niche and obtaining Level 4 lending authority was the apex I reached for my entire career. One thing I am very proud of was the creation and evolution of the Member Experience Department. We have not only trained many employees but we contributed to the quality of service that our members receive. We are invested in our employee’s success and when they are able to deliver a great Member Experience we have accomplished our objective!

“When Paula responded positively to a request to oversee our then Sales & Service Department, she was leaving a retail branch that she had been a part of since her first day. In that time, she has provided our entire organization a consistent approach to member experience, through training of new staff to ensuring our commitment of service is adhered to throughout the entire organization. Her time at SeaComm is marked by a fine individual, who only wanted the very best for our membership.” President & CEO Scott A. Wilson

Neary McCarthy – 32 Years of Service

During your career with SeaComm, what different types of positions did you hold? I began my career here at SeaComm as a Teller, and 6 years later I was promoted to Head Teller (Senior Teller). I was able to accomplish this while attending college full time, receiving two Associates degrees and graduating in 2000 with a Bachelors in Business Administration and Business Economics from SUNY Potsdam. I later transitioned to the accounting department as Accounting Staff, before being promoted and holding the position of Accounting Specialist for the past 19 years.

What are you most proud of from your time with SeaComm? I’m most proud of my time here at SeaComm helping members within our communities. I enjoyed helping my colleagues and all of SeaComm’s staff in delivering total quality services to our members.

What are you looking forward to the most in retirement? In my retirement, I am looking forward to spending quality time with my family, and continuing my current volunteer efforts. My family already volunteers both with Meals on Wheels and with the Saint Peter Parish food pantry here in Massena. I also volunteer with the choir at Saint Peter Parish Church in Massena at 9:30am during Sunday service.

“Neary had been a dedicated employee for over 32 years, and in that time she was constantly focused on ensuring that our membership was served. Whether on the teller line earlier in her career or in her role in accounting, she understood the importance of accuracy of member assets and took that to task each and every day.” President & CEO Scott A. Wilson

Report of the President & Chief Executive Officer

Scott A. Wilson | President & Chief Executive Officer

Membership is at the Heart of our Strategy

A key priority for our Board of Directors is to ensure that our members receive the very best value proposition. Specifically this is accomplished by offering a diverse offering in financial products, rates and service. Member Loyalty rewards are part of this focus. In their overall decision-making process, they are committed to providing exceptional member service, which our members have come to expect and that it will remain at the highest level at all times, no exceptions. They also are steadfast to staying true to our founding mission. To ensure that it remains in focus, the Board, myself and the senior leadership team continue to make this part of our regular agenda for ongoing strategic planning discussions.

Exceptional Service Continues to Remain Our Top Priority

Service as I have stated in the aforementioned paragraph is a strategic focus set by our Board of Directors and one we work to exceed every single day. One of the ways we gauge how we are doing is the use of our Quality Loop Survey. On a monthly basis, these random surveys are mailed to members who have conducted some sort of transaction at the Credit Union. This can be as simple as a balance inquiry in our Call Center, or applying for a loan in person or electronically. Whatever the circumstance, we want feedback on how our member was treated and if we did everything necessary to make them feel valued. Scores range from one to seven (7 being the best). The results are shared with the Board each month. Our overall result for 2024 was 6.81. We do the same on our internal service to one another. Scoring is one to five (5 being the best). The overall Internal Service score was 4.95.

At the end of each year, we calculate the overall average of every employee who received surveys on their delivery of service both externally and internally. The top ten are given the President’s Award for Service Excellence. In 2024 they were:

Quality Loop
Julie Rockwood, Teller, Canton Branch
Cheyenne Dibble, FSR, Malone Branch
Laurie French, Teller, Plattsburgh Branch (3rd consecutive year)
Rose Ellison, Teller, Canton Branch (2nd consecutive year)
Jonathan Tanner, FSR, Watertown Branch

Internal Service
Stephenie Curran, Indirect Lending Officer
Jonathan Currier, Help Desk Technician
Jim Kenney, Facilities Manager
Audra Lashomb, EFT/ACH Specialist
Donna Deruchia, Call Center Manager (3rd consecutive year)

All ten were recognized for their high achievement in this area with their names on a plaque, an appreciation certificate, gift and a lunch.

We are extremely proud of these individuals and the work all of our employees perform with their consistency in delivering exceptional member service.

For a second consecutive year, our Watertown Branch took the top spot out of all our branches with an overall score of 6.94 out of 7. Congratulations to Jess Roach, Branch Manager and her entire team.

Keeping Engaged with Staff is Key to Our Success

We absolutely know why SeaComm is so successful. We have a talented, smart, hard-working staff, which takes great pride in their work of serving our members. We do have high expectations and are committed to maintaining that standard, moreover, we are incredibly fortunate to have dedicated employees who live our service values.

To ensure we are keeping engaged with our staff, we have participated for the last fifteen years with an employee engagement survey. For the first ten, Best Companies to Work for in NY and for the past four, the Great Place to Work. The feedback, which is provided by our staff, gives us the ability to talk about areas, whereby as an employer we can improve, whether it is in the area of training, benefits or communication. This is an ongoing dialogue, which occurs between each survey, amongst our staff, managers, senior management and board.

Page 9

This year we said “Happy Retirement” to three long-tenured staff. Tammy Harrigan, Sr. VP of Marketing & Communications – 35 years; Paula Brown, Assistant VP Member Experience - 35 years; and Neary McCarthy, Accounting Specialist – 33 years. Each of them brought an individual talent to SeaComm and worked hard each and every day on behalf of our membership. Their longevity speaks volumes about SeaComm as a workplace.

Financial Strength

SeaComm is well positioned and continues to remain solid. Year-end assets ended with $776,447,753 million. At the same time, our net operating expenses YTD were at 2.04%, well below our goal of 2.75%. We finished the year with a net income of $7.4 million, garnering us more than $119 million in undivided earnings to date. Our total dividend expense was $8.8 million, which was $2.9 million more than was budgeted and $2.1 million more than was paid out the year prior. The additional dividends offered our members a better rate of return on their certificates of deposit. Capital remains a key component to our financial health, as it is necessary to maintain adequate financial reserves for loan losses as our assets continue to grow. It ensures that we are able to withstand any uncertainty. Our risk-based capital requirement of at least 10% by the National Credit Union Administration, due to being a large complex credit union, ended at 27.41%, well above regulatory requirement. Our Tier 1 capital ended at 15.80% compared to 7% that is required by NCUA to be “well capitalized”.

Our financial strength continues to be nationally recognized. BauerFinancial, an independent rating company, recently awarded us their Superior Five-Stars. They analyze the performance of U.S. Banks and Credit Unions. The star ratings classify each credit union based upon a complex formula which factors in relevant data including, but not limited to: capital, historical trends, loan delinquencies, differences in the book and market values of the investment portfolio, profitability, repossessed assets, reserves, charge-offs, regulatory compliance and asset quality. It has deemed SeaComm as safe, financially sound and we are operating well above their regulatory capital requirements.

Going forward our focus continues to be on enhancing our product and service offerings to meet the ever-changing business landscape and provide each member with a strong value proposition in being a member of our Credit Union. This is accomplished through a consistent and responsible growth strategy.

This past month we launched Access Digital, our new online and mobile platform replacing our NetTeller, which was sun-setting. This gave us an opportunity to put into its place a much more robust channel. Now, we are focused on what we have heard from a lot of members that they wanted – tap and go options. These new cards will roll out to members over the next year as cards are set to expire. First debit in March and credit later in the year.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, management and staff, we are grateful to our more than 55,388 members, who continue to put their trust in us, and we will continue to work diligently to remain strong in order to be able to serve well into the future.

Respectfully submitted,

Business Spotlight

In support of local business members, SeaComm highlights small business owner stories in the quarterly business newsletter called “Your Bottom Line.” Here are the recaps of the third and fourth quarters of 2024:

Village Furniture & Design

For five different decades, residents of Malone, NY and the North Country have been trusting Village Furniture and Design with their furnishing needs. Since the 1980s, its business has helped patrons pick the right pieces to fit the ideal picture of what they want their homes to look like. Kathy Genser, Village Furniture and Design’s third owner, continues the tradition that has made this small business such an important fixture within the community.

Getting its start on Main Street in downtown Malone, Village Furniture and Design started to grow and needed a change of scenery. The business moved to a bigger location on Pearl Street, which eventually became too small as well. Kathy believes that their latest location, 3066 State Route 11 in Malone, will be their final spot. It has plenty of room for all of their inventory and a spacious parking lot for their customers. Finding someplace big enough for all of their products was a necessity.

What can you find at Village Furniture and Design? They sell mostly American made products with a large variety of upholsteries and leathers. You can also get window treatments, and they also provide free delivery. Their knowledgeable staff will help you pick out the perfect set of furniture. They will even help you out with the design. If you’re looking for hands on service when in need of furniture or ideas, Village Furniture will take care of you.

Both Kathy and AnnMarie have great things to say about their experiences with SeaComm. When asked about the credit union Kathy said, “SeaComm is extremely personable, as well as professional. They know your name and you feel a part of the community.” AnnMarie added, “They really are part of the team.” They mentioned SeaComm Malone Branch Manager Christine Marshall and Business Development Representative Jerry Manor as extremely helpful and easy to work with.

If you are looking to change up the look and feel of your home, recently moved, or need to replace some furniture, check out Village Furniture and Design. You can find them at 3066 State Route 11 in Malone, or give them a call at 518-483-7300.

You can follow Village Furniture and Design on Facebook for updates any products, services, or any of special announcements.

Wimpy’s Inn

Wimpy’s Inn was founded in 1932 by a man named Edwin Peterson of Ogdensburg, NY. He specialized in burgers, hot dogs, fresh cut fries and other items commonly sold by similar establishments. What made Wimpy’s different was Edwin’s secret “Wimpy’s Sauce.” He would put his sauce on his burgers and hot dogs and customers couldn’t get enough. This sustained his business for the next 16 years until Edwin sold the restaurant and secret sauce to George Wells.

For over 50 years, George ran the restaurant while raising seven children and making positive impacts in the community. In 1999 George passed the spatula to his daughter, Jenine Relling, who would continue serving the community until 2006, when it was discovered that the building needed to be torn down due to structural issues. Shortly after the demolition, Jenine took Wimpy’s to a travel plaza, but ultimately closed the restaurant to focus her energy at home.

Wimpy’s was gone, but not for long. Jenine’s daughter, Julia Henry and Julia’s husband, Ethan, reopened Wimpy’s, but with a twist. What do you do when you want to serve food, but need to rebuild the business? You open a food truck; which is exactly what they did. In 2015, Wimpy’s returned, serving the same great food, and secret sauce. It was a very successful seasonal business, and after nearly seven years, the third generation owners found a building for their restaurant, just steps away from the original Wimpy’s location in Ogdensburg.

It’s important to have a good partner when it comes to business and finances. Julia has depended on SeaComm since she started. “SeaComm has been my right-hand man since opening the food truck,” she said. Making daily trips to her local branch, Julia says she appreciates how SeaComm makes it easy for her. “The thing I enjoy most about SeaComm is how user friendly all aspects of banking are there and how kind everyone is. They always seem happy to see me and don't mind if I smell like a deep fryer.”

If you’re looking for a delicious and affordable meal, check out Wimpy’s Inn 809 Ford Street, Ogdensburg, NY. You can reach them by phone at 315-276-5396. Follow them on Facebook or check out their website, www.wimpysinn.com. They offer dine in, takeout, and delivery.

Massena Memorial Hospital Foundation

We were delighted to commit $50,000 towards the expansion of the Massena Hospital Emergency Department. This investment will assist in ensuring that the community has access to state-of-the-art emergency services in an updated facility. The renovations of the emergency department include a refresh of current space and nurse stations, updated exam treatment rooms, the establishment of a family consult room/lounge, updated behavioral health rooms and registration areas, as well as new flooring and furniture. We are extremely pleased to provide Massena Hospital Foundation with our financial support for their Emergency Department expansion,” said SeaComm President & Chief Executive Officer Scott Wilson. “The hospital is a cornerstone of the greater Massena community and continues to meet the healthcare needs of our members, friends and neighbors, which is extremely important to us," he added

North Country Children’s Museum

We were thrilled to contribute $10,000 to the North Country Children’s Museum (NCCM), located in Potsdam, NY. The funds will sponsor the Infant Playroom, a key element of the museum’s second floor expansion. SeaComm has a long history of supporting organizations within the communities we serve. “The Children’s Museum offers a unique opportunity to the youth and families in our community,” states Scott A. Wilson, SeaComm President & Chief Executive Officer. “We are proud to sponsor and have the naming rights for the Infant Play area, located on the second floor, to ensure the youngest of the museum patrons have a visually appealing and hands-on experience to enhance their overall visit.” With this donation, the North Country Children’s Museum will provide more fun and education for families with the youngest children.

SeaComm Joins United Way Campaign

Supporting & Strengthening Our Local Communities

We are proud to continue a partnership again this year with the United Way of Northern New York, United Way of the Adirondack Region, and United Way of Northwest Vermont through our annual payroll deduction campaign!

In February, all staff were invited to hear about the powerful community impact and mission that the United Way creates in the North Country.

Annually, staff are provided the opportunity to pledge a portion of their paycheck to the United Way through the means of payroll deduction Last year, SeaComm staff collectively donated over $10,000 to United Way, with a goal of maintaining or increasing that contribution in 2025.

"At SeaComm Federal Credit Union, our partnership with the United Way embodies our philosophy of ‘People Helping People.’ Through the generosity of our employees, we are making a meaningful impact, strengthening communities in which we live and serve, and changing lives for the better,” states Jonathan Haggard SeaComm AVP of Information Systems and Chair of SeaComm United Way Steering Committee.
